Teaching Support & Community

In this space you can find materials from past Pedagogy Day and other teaching-oriented resources, learn about upcoming events and teaching circles, or propose a new topic for a teaching circle.

Environmental Education
The Institute for the Environment hosts regular and pop-up events that help to build environmental education and community at SMC. Please join us for any of the following!

  • Institute for the Environment Public Events Calendar
  • Stories of Teaching & Learning: Learn what other faculty and staff are up to using our resources and in our Outdoor & Living Classrooms by reading the Leahy Institute for the Environment’s blog.
  • Summer Salad Days: Free, farm-fresh salad and community gathering hosted on the SMC Farm. Anyone—student, staff, or alum—are welcome!
  • Community Service Day: Annual event occurring post-graduation where SMC employees participate in a paid, service day at a variety of locations. We offer service opportunities on our SMC Farm, SMC Teaching Gardens, and in the SMC Natural Area!
  • Ditch the Dumpster: Volunteer community event to divert TONS of end-of-year student move-out waste from the landfill by donating, reselling, or disposing of it properly.
  • Any community group is welcome to reserve one of our Outdoor & Living Classrooms using the Project & Classroom Request Form.
  • We are actively building community partnerships. Please be in touch with Portia Butrym, Project & Outreach Coordinator, at pbutrym@smcvt.edu.
