What involvement did/do you have with MOVE? What program did/do you volunteer with and/or lead? What years?
I was involved with Little Brother/Little Sister as a mentor to a spunky, adorable little boy. I also co-led Best Buddies on campus. I went on two service trips. I went on one to South Dakota La Plante Reservation with Simply Smiles and another to Immokalee, Florida, with Habitat for Humanity (2015-2019). I also did a variety of programs like First-Year Apple Picking and other events.
What’s your MOVE story?
MOVE opened my eyes to different worlds. It was often the highlight of my week, attending LB/LS or Best Buddies. The community was so strong and focused on Justice. Being a part of MOVE reaffirmed my passion to become an educator. I’m now working as an educator teaching students with learning and health disabilities in Massachusetts.
In what ways did/does MOVE impact you?
MOVE impacted me a number of ways. It helped me to form strong relationships with my classmates. Attending the service trips was one of the most formative and community building experiences I have ever participated in. I felt a sense of belonging and peace being with a group of people who cared for others like I did. It also provided me with leadership opportunities to help me for my future.
If you are an alumni, what influence does MOVE continue to have on your life today?
I think about MOVE and the impact of service frequently. MOVE was wrapped in faith, and I think about the way service and faith are intertwined. MOVE is one of the most caring communities I’ve ever been a part of. Lara, Ana and Father Michael were incredible mentors to me who I could trust to let me discuss my life and my goals and give honest advice.
