Current job title and employer and briefly describe what it is you do: Assistant Vice President & Manager, Talent Acquisition Operations, Liberty Mutual Insurance.

In a few sentences, tell us about yourself: I’m a wife, mom, and furmama. I have a passion for leadership, coaching others, running, Peloton, kayaking, hiking, the beach, rescuing dogs, and fundraising for various causes. I’ve been at Liberty Mutual Insurance for over 10 years and prior to that I worked at Ernst & Young.

Please tell us about your Saint Michael’s experience: Saint Michael’s College really shaped who I have become today. The education and Edmundite mission really helped grow my passion for being a “good neighbor” and getting involved in my community. I played ice hockey and was involved in just about everything at Saint Michael’s. From Class President to RA to Campus Ministry and dabbling in other extracurriculars, it had so much to offer and still continues to provide so much value to me as an alumna.

What advice would you give to women students: My biggest advice is to get involved in something that is outside of your comfort zone. When we feel uncomfortable, it means we are learning and we grow. I remember going on a white water rafting trip my senior year. I was so nervous. It ended up being a chilly day but I regretted not doing something like that earlier in my tenure at Saint Michael’s. I made new friends, did something new and found a passion for kayaking!

What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations: I feel like a broken record but networking is so important! When I left Ernst & Young, I felt well networked and connected at the organization and with my clients. When I came to Liberty Mutual, I felt lost. It took me a few years but I built up a network. This network supported me, both in and out of work. It also allowed me to figure out what type of work I wanted to do and who I wanted to work with. A connection I made in December 2013 later helped me land my current role, nearly six years later.

What keeps you motivated and driven on a daily basis: I love leading people. I always feel like I am adding value when someone comes to me with a problem. Even if I can’t help solve it, I give that person space to share, I actively listen, and provide advice as needed. Leading and coaching keeps me motivated and driven to want to continue to help more people. Hopefully, I can make a positive impact on someone’s life.

What woman most inspires you and why: There are way too many to name that have inspired or impacted me in some way. I would have to say my grandmothers (“Nana” & “Honey”). Both have been a significant part of my life, supported me in so many ways, and I don’t know where I’d be without either of them. They both have persevered through their own challenges that have inspired me to dig deep and have grit when it’s been hard. And I have good genes; 91 and almost 90 respectively!
