Service Trip Staff Leader
What involvement did/do you have with MOVE? What program did/do you volunteer with and/or lead? What years?
Staff Leader for two service trips: Buffalo, NY, in Jan. 2019 and Immokalee, FL, in Jan. 2020
What’s your MOVE story?
MOVE became a part of my life before I had ever stepped foot on St. Mike’s campus! As a full-time volunteer in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, one of my community members was a 2016 graduate of SMC. They would talk about their involvement in MOVE programs and the community that MOVE created for them during their college years (fun fact — my first MOVE service trip was Buffalo, NY, which they had gone on when they were a student!). When I started working in Admission at SMC after my year of service, I knew I wanted to continue my passion for volunteerism and community organizing by getting involved with MOVE. Whether it was attending a MOVE ice cream social, bragging about the programming while recruiting prospective students, or laughing and learning alongside current students on service trips, I know I will cherish the memories and relationships MOVE has given me. My experiences with MOVE solidified why I’m passionate about working with high school and college students. Being able to reflect with students on issues of peace and justice, especially within education and racial justice, and watch the growth that can happen while spending a week building community together is an experience that exemplifies to me the commitment of the College to fostering experiences that create alumni equipped to go out into the world to do well and do good.
