What involvement did/do you have with MOVE? What program did/do you volunteer with and/or lead? What years?
Lund (2015-2018)
What’s your MOVE story?
MOVE helped me find my career path in social work! I started volunteering with the Lund program where I got to do arts and crafts with women and children. Lund is a residential treatment facility for women and their child(ren) who reside in the program with them. This program pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a leader. During my senior year at SMC, I became a substitute residential counselor. When I graduated, I worked at Lund full-time. Although I moved back to NY last year, I still think about the impact MOVE and Lund had in my life. I know now that I want to be a social worker for children and families.
In what ways did/does MOVE impact you?
Helped me forge my career path in social work with children and families. Helped me grow as a leader and helped me develop better communication and time management skills.
If you are an alumni, what influence does MOVE continue to have on your life today?
I am good friends with my old co-leader and we still talk about how much fun we had working with MOVE and Lund.
