Angie Armour ’99

The Alumni of the Year award for this class of 1999 alumna has been decades in the making. As a member of the Saint Mike’s staff for nearly 22 years, she had been ineligible to receive this award. But now that she has moved on to new opportunities, the time has finally come to recognize and thank Angie Armour.

Angie enrolled in St. Mike’s in the fall of 1995, and just over a year after graduation, started as Athletic Communications Director, where she worked for three years. She then moved over to Institutional Advancement, where she served in numerous roles – including Director for Alumni and Family Engagement and Executive Director – over nearly 20 years. During that time, Angie became one of the most recognizable faces on campus – and off – for our vast alumni network.

There’s really no way to quantify Angie’s decades at St. Mike’s, and her thousands upon thousands of relationships with alumni, staff, faculty, families and friends. We did calculate a few impressive numbers, though! What we do know for certain is that every action she took or memory she shared with an alumni helped shape this campus for the better.

Now for those numbers! During her time at St. Mike’s, Angie saw 27 classes graduate, including 12,146 alumni – approximately 50 percent of our alumni base. She coordinated 21 reunions and facilitated more than 60 Alumni Board meetings. She managed hundreds of reunion committee chairs and members, career panel participants, Alumni Board members and chapter volunteers.

Angie spent countless hours, weekends and holidays traveling the country, attending events, serving as host, representing St. Mike’s and going above and beyond at all times. We can’t forget her incredible St. Mike’s support team at home – Josh, Gigi and Hayley – devoted Purple Knights through and through, who supported Angie every step of the way, and frequently gave up their rooms for out-of-town alumni guests!

Angie served as our resident ‘Kevin Bacon’, if you will, although it was never six degrees of separation – there was never more than a degree or two between Angie and every single Purple Knight. She knew names, faces and relationships. She knew donor histories – and lack thereof. She knew and admired the best, and told great stories about some real characters. She did her job with the perfect mix of poise, class, affection and generosity.

According to a past alumni board member from the class of 1984, “Angie had a fantastic gift for remembering the details and backstories of her volunteers. Even when I only saw her a couple of times a year, she would ask appropriate questions or pick up the thread of prior conversations. Another wonderful attribute of Angie’s is her great discretion. Managing volunteers is never easy, and some people have an enthusiasm that exceeds their skill. Angie was always able to get the best from everyone, while directing people to tasks that matched their gifts and graces.”

Angie taught so many people how to be impactful alumni, through building community, giving, and cultivating the next generation of volunteers. She was an integral part of the campus community, constantly being asked to serve on search committees, advocating for colleagues, volunteering for events, cheering on our athletes, even spending 10 years as one-third of the esteemed ‘Two Mommas and a Padre’ running club with Heidi St. Peter and Fr. Brian.

There is so much more to be said, but if you’re an alumnus, you probably have your own memories and stories with Angie. At some point this weekend, raise a glass and thank her for her years of service if you can.

Angie frequently said that one of the best parts of her job was working with the Alumni Board because of their spirit and dedication to St. Mike’s. So, on behalf of a grateful Alumni Board, it is my great pleasure to – finally! – name Angie Armour a 2024 Alumni of the Year. Congratulations!
