Marianne Strayton ’98
Our next Alumni of the Year award recipient is Dr. Marianne Strayton, Class of 1998. Marianne works in the Clarkstown, New York, Central School District as a K-5 math specialist. In addition to shaping young minds, she consistently finds the time to give back to Saint Michael’s.
Marianne is just ending a three-year term on the Alumni Board of Directors while continuing to serve as an Admissions Ambassador. She co-chaired her 10th reunion in 2018 and served as a committee member for her class’s other reunions. She is a frequent alumni participant with the Liturgical Choir and serves as a member of the Career Advisory Network, supporting students as they embark on their post-college careers. Marianne is also a proud President’s Medallion Society donor, with 19 years of consecutive giving to the college.
Marianne is closely connected in her community as a youth ministry volunteer at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. She also serves as President of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, and a board member for the Ten County Math Educators Association.
Marianne’s favorite memories from her time on campus were dinners in the homes of her professors with her peers. As Marianne put it: “To be welcomed into their lives, along with my classmates, was an example of connecting on a human level and becoming a true community. I have relied on those circles of people many times over the years.”
In addition to her volunteer service, Marianne is also very close to her family. She lives down the street from her parents and plays an active role in the lives of her one-year-old niece Kathryn, and 13-year-old nephew Ryder, who live next door with her brother and his family. Nominate a couple Future Knights perhaps, Marianne?
The Alumni Association Board of Directors is thrilled to name Marianne Strayton a 2023 Alumnus of the Year.
