Scott L. Woods ’86

Died: March 29, 2024
Class of 1986

Scott L. Woods, Waterbury, VT, died March 29, 2024.

When Scott was 11, he suffered a spinal cord injury that changed the course of his life. The results from this injury posed many challenges for Scott throughout his lifetime, but he never let them define who he was. Scott exhibited more grit and determination in his daily life than many people do in their entire lifetimes.

He was a 1982 graduate of Harwood Union High School in Waterbury before coming to Saint Michael’s, where he majored in business. He was a member of the Waterbury Historical Society, Waterbury American Legion, and supporter of the Waterbury Ambulance Service, which was always there in his times of need.

His early work career included as a purchasing agent/administrative assistant for Seacoast Pharmaceuticals, and as an assistant office manager and bookkeeper for McCullough Crushing, Inc. in Montpelier.

Scott had a keen intellect and a wicked (and sometimes inappropriate) sense of humor. He enjoyed a good debate about almost any topic and some of the simple things in life like sitting on his front porch and talking with neighbors and passersby.

He and his daughter enjoyed many outings and adventures together. He also loved going on “ride-arounds” with his dad and the annual trip to the fair with his sister to enjoy some good old greasy fair food, as well as sharing time in the kitchen with his mother. He was an expert on Elvis Presley’s life, songs, movies and business decisions. Scott was also an avid history enthusiast. While he had an opinion on many things, he was also a good listener and provided counsel to those who asked.

Scott is survived by a daughter, his father and father’s wife, his mother, a sister, his former wife, and extended family.
