Richard Paul Lynch, Essex Junction, VT, died March 16, 2025.

Born in Burlington, he was a 1961 graduate of Rice Memorial High School. After earning his English undergraduate degree at Saint Michael’s, he went on complete a master’s and doctorate from Southern Illinois University.

For more than 30 years, he was a professor of English at College Misericordia in Dallas, PA, including serving as chair for many years. Richard also served in the Navy from 1961-1965. He was known for his intellect, sense of humor, and his kindness. He was highly regarded for his scholarly work on James Joyce and other modernist writers and had the ability to convey the beauty of literature to his students. He published numerous articles and was honored by College Misericordia with a Service Award.

His family is grateful for the compassionate care Richard received from staff at both the University of Vermont Medical Center and McClure Miller Respite House.

Richard is survived by a daughter, three brothers, a sister and extended family.
