John R. Cadigan ’83

Died: June 30, 2024
Class of 1983

John R. Cadigan, Hamilton, MA, died June 30, 2024.

John was in the midst of a typical favorite Sunday, a morning with good friends, an afternoon cooking up crab legs, listening to ska and hanging out with his three faithful dogs, all interrupted by a tragic fall.

Born in Proctor, VT, John was raised in Hingham, MA. His 1979 classmates at Hingham High, many of whom remained lifelong friends, remember him as a versatile athlete and exceptional baseball player and the source of plenty of laughs and much mischief. He’s most fondly remembered as a sensitive soul, caring deeply for those around him.

After Saint Michael’s, John began a long, successful career in financial advising and wealth management in the greater Boston area. John’s time in Boston finance led to meeting his best friend and love of his life, Stori (Stephanie) Stockwell Cadigan. They married and moved to Hamilton, where the beautiful outdoors, wide range of friends new and old and tightly knit neighborhood provided the perfect environment for raising their daughter. John’s connection to his North Shore community served him well. He had a decades-long network of dedicated, funny and active friends who supported him tirelessly after the unexpected death of his wife in 2022.

John also found solace in nature, taking walks on Sagamore Hill and along Crane’s beach, armed with his birding book and binoculars. He was often afoot on the tennis and paddle courts and golf course, as he was a member of Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea.

John’s most memorable traits: his determination, his kindness to those who had the privilege of working with him, his lifelong wonderful grin, his enthusiasm for music (daughter, Sam, grew up to the killer tunes of The Strokes, The Specials, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen) and his all-star dinner party talents.

Predeceased by his wife, Stori, John is survived by a daughter, a brother, Joseph Cardigan ’80, three sisters and extended family including nephew Joseph Cadigan ’13 and niece Sarah Dulieu ’07.
