John P. Vassak ’62

John P. Vassak, North Salem, NY, died December 23, 2024.

After graduating from St. Mary’s High School of Katonah, NY, in 1958, he came to Saint Michael’s and earned his degree in English before continuing to obtain a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.

John taught social studies for the North Salem Central School District for 43 years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed being the leader of the 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip for many years.

John was a Eucharistic Minister and proud member of the North Salem Historical Society, serving as the corresponding secretary as well as being part of the Putnam Ranger 4-H club, which he and his wife led out of their Brewster home. John was also seen often volunteering at the St. Joseph’s food pantry. During his free time John enjoyed traveling, gardening, skiing, taking French classes and spending time with beloved friends and family.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Regina, three sons, a brother and extended family.
