John F. Durkin, Jr. ’64
John F. Durkin, Jr., Fairfield, CT, died October 5, 2024.
Born in Rockville Center, NY, he attended Chaminade High School in Mineola on Long Island where he enjoyed playing football. In college at Saint Michael’s, John was the commander of the Air Force ROTC Drill Team New England Champions.
John proudly served in the Air Force as Captain and an “A” Flight Commander in Phu Cat Air Base Vietnam from 1967-68 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievements in service.
Professionally, John held the title Manager/Sales Training and Development -National and International Headquarters Rank Xerox for over 20 years before starting his own successful Consulting Business. In that role, he and his family lived for a time in London, England.
He enjoyed traveling overseas with family and was happiest swimming in the ocean or the pool. He loved to play baseball and football and was an avid sports fan and collector.
He had a great sense of humor; loved all kinds of music, dance and performance, especially when it involved his siblings, children and grandchildren. Above all John loved being with family, joking around, enjoying a good meal and a movie.
John is survived by his wife, Joanne (Maurino), a son, two daughters, two brothers including Daniel Durkin ’67, a sister and extended family.
