D. Thomas Rooney, Wilbraham, MA, died February 16, 2024.

Born in Springfield, MA “Tom,” as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. After Saint Michael’s he earned an MBA from Western New England University in Springfield, and studied liturgical design at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, IL.

Tom was the proud owner of H.J. Rooney & Sons, a multigenerational family contracting business, and a devoted parishioner of St. Cecilia Church, where he played a leading role in the design and construction of its new church in 1996.

He was a President’s Medallion supporter of the College. Tom received the Victor V. LeMieux ’35 Award for soccer in 1969. The award, established in 1964, is presented annually to the varsity athlete best displaying loyalty and leadership in their program, both on and off the field of competition. Also, he long took an active interest in the College’s alumni affairs.

Tom’s wife, Linda, predeceased him in June 2022. He is survived by four sons, two sisters and extended family.
