Arthur A. Charlebois ’55
Arthur A. Charlebois, Fort Myers, FL, died August 30, 2024, of heart failure.
He was born in Glens Falls, NY, to parents who immigrated from Ontario, Canada. More than a decade separated Art from his three older brothers, but his five sisters closer in age doted on him.
Art attended St. Alphonsus School and Glens Falls High School. A natural leader and gifted athlete, he served as senior class president and captain of the basketball and baseball teams. At Saint Michael’s he played varsity baseball and golf.
At a dance during his senior year, Arthur met his future wife Maureen Shea, a student at the University of Vermont. The two married after Art’s graduation in 1955. While moving throughout New England, the couple had their three oldest children, before settling in Maureen’s hometown of Manchester, CT, where the youngest daughter was born.
An avid sportsman, Arthur coached his sons’ baseball and basketball teams and developed his lifelong passion for golf. After helping his father with the family ice business, Art later worked in furniture sales and insurance, before ultimately deciding on a career in medical sales that spanned 30 years.
In 1985, he and his wife followed a daughter to Fort Myers where they delighted in time with three grandsons.
Upon retirement at age 67, Art enjoyed travel, visiting family and friends in the Northeast, and playing golf. During their time in Fort Myers, Art and Maureen built their dream home in McGregor Woods, living happily there for 20 years, before relocating to Cross Creek Golf and Country Club. They most recently resided at American House Senior Living Community.
Art was a warm and charismatic man; he loved telling stories and had a great, often self-deprecating, sense of humor. As a younger man he loved to dance, and all his life he adored listening to music.
The Roman Catholic faith was central to his life, and he was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Maureen were parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection and regularly attended daily Mass. Art was devoted to his family.
Art is survived by his wife of 69 years, Maureen, two sons, two daughters, a sister and extended family.
