Philosophy and Ethics Learning Outcomes
Graduates are expected to meet the following benchmarks in the Philosophy and Ethics program: maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher in their courses; acquire foundational knowledge of the issues in philosophy and ethics; apply concepts and theories related to philosophy and ethics to a disciplinary, scholarly project; and successfully complete a capstone project in Philosophy and Ethics.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Philosophy and Ethics program:
- Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental philosophical questions about ethics, life, and ultimate reality.
- Are familiar with major currents in the history of philosophy, with a particular emphasis on the western tradition.
- Recognize diverse conceptions of philosophy’s nature, purpose, method, and mode of presentation.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by analyzing and evaluating philosophical arguments, concepts, truth claims, thought experiments, inquiries, and explorations.
- Use critical thinking skills to construct well-reasoned arguments and anticipate possible counterarguments.
- Apply critical thinking skills by examining, articulating, and evaluating those values, principles, and assumptions from which individual and collective decisions are made in regard to ethics, ultimate reality, and other areas of fundamental concern.
- Demonstrate intellectual awareness and ethical consideration by engaging in respectful philosophical dialogue with others whose perspectives may be different from their own.
