In a few sentences, tell us about yourself.

Life has taken me on a winding path. I currently reside in Middlesex, VT with my blended family. My work at Voices is diverse – including research, coalition building, youth empowerment, and policy advocacy. My current areas of focus are restorative practices, the child protection system, and economic justice.

Please tell us about your Saint Michael’s experience.

SMC afforded me the opportunity to transition softly into my adult life. The community was/is supportive and nurturing, especially the MOVE office, which served as my second home. I was challenged to explore privilege and bias within our campus and the greater community. My perspectives were challenged and I grew as a result.

What advice would you give to women students?

Trust and support your female peers. Remember that institutional sexism, racism, and classism persist – make an effort to dismantle them whenever possible. Listen to different perspectives, but don’t sacrifice your identity. Integrity matters.

What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations?

Ask for the raise, the promotion, and the benefits that you deserve. Men do this, but women still hesitate. Value yourself and your contributions.

What keeps you motivated and driven on a daily basis?

Hope and progress. Some days are easier than others. I am inspired by the current youth who are passionate, driven, and decisive. I find strength in the wisdom of our elders, many of whom have helped me take pause and see the broader context.

What woman most inspires you and why?

Really? Just one! The bold, fierce leaders come to mind first, but there are so many local heroes as well. Ann Giombetti 🙂
