Theatrical Video Release Party for the "Mill Girls"
“Mill Girls” – the popular 2017 play with music by Peter Harrigan and Tom Cleary – was set to be revived in the fall of 2020. COVID 19 got in the way, so we made a full-length video that will debut April 1st (no fooling!).
The video will be celebrated at a Launch Event on Friday April 1st at 6:00 pm in the McCarthy Theatre, consisting of live music, stories, and sneak previews. This event is free and open to the public (with proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test). Instrumentalists will include Cleary, Amber deLaurentis, Fine Arts: Music Professor Bill Ellis, and Stan Baker. The singers will be a range of SMC students and alums who are showcased in the new video.
The “Mill Girls” video will be available on the College’s YouTube page that same day. It features 37 members of the Saint Michael’s College community – including current students; graduates from the 1970’s to the present; and the spouses and children of faculty members. It was filmed – as conditions permitted – between October 2020 and February 2021, and then edited in the time since. First-time film director Harrigan said he would recommend that “newbies start by making a video that lasts two minutes rather than two hours.” But he hopes the warmth and heart of the story, and the energy and commitment of the performers, will be evident to those who watch on the worldwide web.
Can’t make it? Check out the full-length feature below!
