Subversive Habits: Black Catholic Nuns in the Long African American Freedom Struggle

The Edmundite Center for Faith and Culture presents “Subversive Habits: Black Catholic Nuns in the Long African American Freedom Struggle” on Thursday, March 23, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Farrell Room of Saint Edmund’s Hall.

Dr. Shannen Dee Williams, Associate Professor of History at the University of Dayton, is a historian of the African American experience with research and teaching specializations in women’s, religious and Black freedom movement history, Williams is the author of Subversive Habits: Black Catholic Nuns in the Long African American Freedom Struggle, which provides the first full history of Black Catholic nuns in the United States and hails these women as the forgotten prophets of Catholicism and democracy.
