SMC Reads Book Discussion - Lulu in the Sky

Lulu in the Sky is the third installment of Ung’s biographical trilogy and details her experience as a student at Saint Michael’s in the early 1990s and her post-graduate adulthood. She captures the emotional struggles of reconciling the horrors she experienced as an orphaned child soldier during the Khmer Rouge genocide. The novel is a follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, which was the SMC Book Award selection for many years, a previous First-Year Seminar Common Text selection, and was adapted into a 2017 Netflix film. Her second novel, Lucky Child: A Daughter of Cambodia Reunites with the Sister she Left Behind chronicles her move to the United States and her assimilation to life in Vermont while giving voice to her sister’s experiences as a genocide survivor in Cambodia.

This event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by the Alumni and Family Engagement Office. It is part of the Alumni Office’s SMC Reads quarterly book club. All are welcome and may register for the event here: https://bit.ly/3uo3Vtq
