Humanities Center Lecture: “Choral Music of Ukraine and Ukrainian Roma"

Dr. Jeffrey Buettner, Christian A. Johnson Professor of Music at Middlebury College, will deliver a special lecture on Ukraine and its musical traditions, “Choral Music of Ukraine and Ukrainian Roma.” This Humanities Center lecture will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, March 24th in McCarthy Recital Hall.

An expert on Ukrainian music, Dr. Buettner has traveled to Ukraine for research into the region’s music for more than two decades. He was a 2010 Fulbright Scholar to Kharkiv State University of Arts, where he conducted the University Choir and taught choral music. He has also presented his research on Romani vocal music of Ukraine and Russia at national and international conferences, and he has written and performed several arrangements of American and Romani songs with the Middlebury College Choir and other ensembles.

Masking is mandatory for all attendees.
