Students support Milk with Dignity in Alliot
On April 10, students of Sherry Pachman’s Spanish 102 classes collaborated with Assistant Professor of Fine Art Becca Gurney, art student Magnolia Sinisi, ’24, to support MOVE’s Juntes, the student arm of Migrant Justice. The group engaged the community in supporting Milk with Dignity, a campaign of Migrant Justice/Justicia Migrante, which is a Burlington-based human rights organization. Video testimonials of migrant farm workers’ experiences played in Alliot while students silk-screened images created by classmates Evan Kennedy and Cody Fuller and Juntes student leaders educated people passing by about Milk with Dignity. They encouraged them to call Hannaford Supermarket CEO Mike Vail to urge the company to join the Milk with Dignity program, which is part of the Fair Food Program. St. Mike’s student activism was part of a larger call-in day of action organized by Migrant Justice. Participants who made calls and posted messages in support of Milk with Dignity on the Hannaford and Migrant Justice’s social media were entered into a raffle to win ice cream and swag donated by Ben & Jerry’s. Ben & Jerry’s joined the Milk with Dignity Program in 2017.
