The Student Spotlight Series is a new feature to highlight Saint Michael’s students’ lives in all corners of campus. Students’ answers have been lightly edited for style and clarity.

Jarrett Sweet ’25, from Fletcher, Vermont, is a double major in Secondary Education and Equity Studies at Saint Michael’s College. Sweet recently answered the series of questions below about his experience as a student at St. Mike’s.

What brought you to Saint Michael’s College?

I knew coming from a small school and understanding my needs as a learner that Saint Michael’s was going to be able to support me and challenge me as a learner. The ability to build a relationship with professors was also extremely important to me, and Saint Michael’s professors have gone above and beyond with this. I feel like a valued student and member of Saint Michael’s College.

Where do people see you on campus? (What are you involved in? How do you spend your time?)

Students can see me all over campus, which is another aspect of Saint Michael’s that I love. I am a part of the Student Government Association as the Secretary of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I also have two jobs on campus as a Library Circulation Desk Assistant and I am also a Tour Guide on campus! I am a part of Common Ground as their Vice-President as well. They also will see me in the classroom too!

What is your favorite thing about the academic experience at St. Mikes?

Professors at Saint Michael’s value student voices within their classroom; they want to hear your thoughts and opinions! This allows us as students to build our ability to have conversations and build the ability to articulate our arguments and opinions. The encouragement of studying abroad and the opportunities that Saint Michael’s offers are so impactful on the students’ experience! As a student, being able to experience and learn about a different culture allows us to become global citizens in our world!

Jarrett Sweet describes his research he did on campus during summer 2023.

What is your favorite thing to do on campus?

I think my favorite part about living on the Saint Michael’s campus is that you are within a five-minute walk from all your friends, so you are able to see and hangout with them throughout the entire day!  Whether it is having a study session in the library or saying hi to each other as you walk to class, the opportunity is always there!

How are you hoping your St. Mike’s education will prepare you for the future? (do you have after-education plans?)

I know that attending Saint Michael’s College is providing the proper foundation for me to build a successful career as a future social studies teacher in the middle & high school!
