When is the library open?
The library is open until midnight on weeknights and shorter hours on the weekend, for a total of 100 hours per week.  The library stays open until 2:00 am during exams.  For more information, see Hours.

How big is the library collection?
The library has 270,000 volumes, and adds about 8,000 new items each year.  The library provides access to articles from over 42,000 online journals.  For more information see Statistics.

How much do students at Saint Michael's use the library?
Over the course of an academic year the average SMC student goes to the library 70 times, uses library research databases 50 times, and checks out 15 books and other items.  For more information see Statistics.

Can I get help doing my research?
Yes!  Students can come to the reference desk or contact a librarian by phone or e-mail for assistance.  We are always happy to give one on one help.  For more information see Reference Services.

Is wireless internet access available in the library?
Yes.  High speed wireless access to the internet and MikeNet is available throughout the library.  For more information see Wireless Network.

Can I access the library from my room and off campus?
Yes.  The campus network allows you to access almost all research databases, online journals, the library catalog, and online books from anywhere on campus.  You can log in from off campus with your Mikenet username and password.  For more information see Off Campus Access.

Can I borrow books and articles from other libraries?
Yes.  The library can get books or articles from almost anywhere in the world.  The service is free to students and usually takes just a few days.  For more information see Interlibrary Loan.  If you can’t wait, you can also check out books at UVM, Middlebury, and other area college libraries.

Are there jobs for students in the library?
Yes.  The library employs about 60 students through the work-study program.  Students interested in working in the library should contact the Financial Aid office.  For more information see Student Workers.

Is there somewhere in the library I can get a cup of coffee?
Yes.  The Durick's Den study lounge has a gourmet coffee machine, other drinks, and snacks.  For more information see Food and Drink.
