Patrick J. Gallivan named Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Saint Michael's College

In consultation with the college's board of trustees and the Saint Michael's community, President John J. Neuhauser named Patrick Gallivan to the vice president's position.

"Patrick has brought enthusiasm, energy and good humor" to his years of work at Saint Michael's, President Neuhauser said. A tireless worker for the college and the wider community, "Patrick never shies away from any task and is always willing to serve as the gracious moderator of choice for any event," the President added. "He will now take on a new role made all the more challenging by these difficult times," President Neuhauser said, adding, "I look forward to working very closely with Patrick in the years ahead."

Patrick Gallivan has been serving as interim VP for Institutional Advancement for several months, while also serving as director for alumni and parent relations, a position he has held since 1998.

"I am inspired by the loyalty of our alumni, parents and friends, whose time, treasure and talent continue to make the current student experience a better one at Saint Michael's," Gallivan said, on accepting the position of Vice President. "And I am humbled by the opportunity to join President Neuhauser and the college's exceptional faculty and staff to serve Saint Michael's College in this important way," he added.

The VP for institutional advancement will direct a staff of 21 professionals engaged in development and alumni affairs for the college. He will work closely with the Saint Michael's family of alumni, parents and friends to increase support for the college. Mr. Gallivan will also serve as a member of the president's cabinet.

A 1989 graduate of Saint Michael's, with a political science major and philosophy minor, Patrick Gallivan served as president of the student association his senior year. He joined the college staff upon graduation as an admission counselor, coordinating alumni-admission work from 1989 to 1991, then serving as assistant director of admission from 1991 to 1993, and associate director of admission from 1993 to 1998, at which time he became director for alumni and parent relations.

Other Professional Service
Patrick Gallivan has been chair of the board of trustees of Burlington College since 2001, during which time he helped select that college's president, Jane Sanders. He served as chair of the Summer Workshop on College Admission Counseling for the New England Association for College Admission Counseling in 1997 and 1998. He has served as moderator of the Saint Michael's Student Association from 1992 to the present, and has served on a number of regional admission officer councils.

Community Service
Mr. Gallivan has been a volunteer for Camp TA-KUM-TA for children with cancer, since 1995, serving on the board since 1997 and chairing the building committee since 2005. He also served on the steering committee of the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival from1997 to 2003, as chair in 2000 and 2001. His service as master of ceremonies at Saint Michael's is legend. Almost no major event takes place without his excellent service as emcee.

Saint Michael's College, founded in 1904 by the Society of St. Edmund and headed by President John J. Neuhauser, is identified by the Princeton Review as one of the nation's Best 368 Colleges. A liberal arts, residential, Catholic college, Saint Michael's is located just outside of Burlington, Vermont, one of America's top college towns and less than two hours from Montreal. As one of only 270 institutions nationwide with a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa chapter on campus, Saint Michael's has 2,000 full-time undergraduate students, some 500 graduate students and 200 international students.
